The Allston Brighton Youth Coalition, Teens Inspiring People, promotes a healthy Allston Brighton community by working on projects that prevent underage drinking and youth substance use. TIP is made up of high school students who either live or go to school in Allston Brighton.

TIP peer leaders:

  • Educate the community about the consequences of buying alcohol for underage youth through Sticker Shock Campaigns and Shoulder Tap surveys
  • Work with the Allston Brighton Substance Abuse Task Force to present a Youth Summit and an annual Town Hall Meeting
  • Build leadership skills, have fun, meet new people and get paid!

Allston-Brighton youth launch sticker campaign targeting adults buying alcohol

ALLSTON-BRIGHTON - The Allston Brighton Substance Abuse Task Force and Youth Coalition launched a sticker shock campaign targeting adults in the community. The stickers, placed on multi-packs of alcoholic beverages at liquor stores, remind adults that it is illegal to provide alcohol for people under 21.

What is Social Host Liability?
It's the laws that detail what will happen to a person who provides alcohol to someone under 21 years old.
Here's the law in Massachusetts:
...whoever furnishes alcohol for a person under 21 years of age shall be punished by: -Fine of up to $2,000 - Imprisonment for up to a year; or -Both
Important details of this law:
"whoever" = anyone (including people underage)
"furnishes"= to knowingly or intentionally supply, give, provide to or allow to possess alcoholic beverages on premises or property owned or controlled by the person charged.
